Nine days off for Chuseok 2026? The three leave dates that connect the calendar
For people in Korea who have weekends off, September 21–23 can connect the preceding weekend to Chuseok for nine days away. Compare that with two five-day options requiring one leave day.
A headline about a nine-day Chuseok break is enough to send you to the calendar. The topic appeared in AAGAG’s September 15 hot-issue list. What can you do with this year’s dates? We applied personal leave to Korea’s official 2026 calendar.
For a Monday-to-Friday schedule with weekends off, the standard 2026 break runs from Thursday, September 24 through Sunday, September 27. Taking leave on September 21, 22 and 23 connects it to the previous weekend: nine days from September 19–27. They are not nine public holidays.
The missing bridge is Monday through Wednesday
This year’s holiday period runs Thursday through Saturday, immediately followed by Sunday. Between it and the preceding weekend sit three ordinary weekdays: Monday the 21st, Tuesday the 22nd and Wednesday the 23rd. Taking those days off joins two weekend days, three leave days and the four-day break.
Use different colors for the dates already free on your schedule and the dates that require leave. Before telling your family you have nine days off, establish whether those three working days can actually be cleared. Shift workers and people working weekends need to apply the same calculation to their own roster.
One leave day buys two different five-day options
A longer break is not automatically a better fit. With one leave day available, taking Wednesday, September 23 gives you September 23–27. Taking Monday, September 28 gives you September 24–28. The first creates room before the holiday; the second creates breathing space after it.
Those options have the same length but serve different needs. Decide whether preparation and early travel matter more than a clear day after returning. The comparison with the nine-day option is not a contest to maximize time away; it is a way to place scarce leave where it helps most.
Agree on the dates before booking the trip
Buying travel before arranging leave turns a calendar uncertainty into a financial commitment. Put your working days, your companions’ schedules and any school days on the same calendar first. If you have nine days but your companion has four, the shared trip still needs to fit the overlap.
Compare quotes for the same departure and return dates. Nine days off do not require an eight-night trip. Keeping days at home before or after a shorter journey may fit better. Separate time away from time reserved for rest.
A recirculating holiday image is not a new holiday announcement
Check the year on a shared calendar first. AAGAG supplied the topic; KASI’s 2026 calendar announcement supplies this year’s dates. The calculation assumes weekends off and approved personal leave, without adding company-specific closures or unannounced temporary holidays.
